Maruti Ignis: Compact Design, Peppy Performance, and Feature-Packed

In today’s era where everyone is looking for a stylish yet functional car, Maruti Ignis comes out as an ideal option. This car is made for urban drivers with its unique design, efficient engine and modern features. But does it really live up to your expectations?

Design and Build Quality

The design of Maruti Ignis is completely different and attractive. Its bold grille, projected headlamps and compact dimensions give it a distinct identity on the road. The build quality of the car is strong, although some plastic parts may look a bit cheap. The interior design is very much liked by the youth, which includes dual-tone color combination and ergonomic design.

Engine and Performance

Talking about the engine, the Ignis is powered by a 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine that generates 82 bhp power and 113 Nm torque. This engine is perfect for urban conditions, which gives good performance combined with light weight. Gear shifting is smooth in the manual transmission model, while the AMT variant makes driving in traffic easier. The car remains stable on the highway, although the engine noise is felt a bit loud after 100 kmph.

Ride and Handling

The ride quality of the Ignis is perfect for the city, but can feel a bit stiff on bad roads. The suspension setup is primarily tuned for urban use. Handling is good and the car can be easily turned even in tight spaces due to the small turning radius. The steering is light which makes driving in the city comfortable.

Interior and Comfort

In terms of interior space, the Ignis offers good space despite its compact size. The front seats are comfortable, although there is not much legroom on the rear seats for long journeys. The boot space is 260 liters which is sufficient for urban use. A good number of storage options are provided in the interior. Comfort features include automatic climate control, multifunction steering and height adjustable driver seat.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, Ignis provides features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt warning and speed sensing door lock. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill Hold Assist are also provided in the top variants. However, some basic variants may lack safety features.

Mileage

According to ARAI testing, Ignis gives a mileage of 20.89 kmpl. In real world conditions, it gives a mileage of 16-18 kmpl in the city and 19-21 kmpl on the highway. Mileage may be slightly less in AMT variants.

Price and variants

Talking about the price, the Maruti Ignis is priced between ₹ 5.85 lakh to ₹ 8.26 lakh (ex-showroom). A total of 11 variants are available in it which include Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha trim levels. All variants are available with a 1.2L petrol engine which can be chosen with manual or AMT transmission.
